Day 7

This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!!

Today we had the opportunity to experience a day of worship here in Belize. We first had Sunday School which was led by Aldair, Pastor Alvaro and Elsa’s oldest son.  We sang, and prayed and read different Scripture verses from the Bible. Part way through, the children left for Sunday School class led by Elsa and Kathleen went along to help her out with the class.

Pastor Alvaro then split the church into six groups and our Fenwick Hands team each joined a group so that we were all mixed together. It was an awesome experience to be able to be in a small group with members of the church here in San Narciso – even though we are from different countries and speak different languages, we were all unified in Christ. We could read our Bibles in our own language and still be able to understand each other in our discussions about what God was saying to us through scripture. The Sunday school lesson took us through the sixth commandment, thou shall not kill, and we discussed topics such as what it means to be a Good Samaritan, putting our words into actions, abortion and how we are not to be judgemental rather we are called to show kindness to our enemies.

After Sunday school we had a five minute break and then we had the church service for the day. This was a time for singing and worship together. Our team even sang two songs for the church (The River and I Will Rise). Pastor Alvaro then spoke to us about the second coming of Christ. We were blessed by the sermon! Pastor Alvaro was even generous enough to translate his sermon – going back and forth between English and Spanish. It was a blessing to be able to understand his message.

Once church was over we then travelled to Orchid Bay to visit the place where Kendrick and Liz are building a house. The drive to their home was quite an adventure. It included some very bumpy roads as well as some hand cranked ferries. It was a very peaceful and relaxing afternoon. We had an opportunity to enjoy each other’s company as well as some swimming time in the bay of Chetumal, a beautiful sunset and some napping in the hammocks. God created Sundays for a day of rest and that was exactly what we did!
