Fundraising Dinner @ the Fenwick Firehall

We held our main fundraiser on a Friday evening, October 12. The brand-new Fenwick
Firehall was the perfect place. It had everything we needed.

On Thursday evening we gathered as a team for a pizza supper and then spent a few hours setting up the tables and platform, decorating with pumpkins, gourds,
corn-stalks and other fall related items, getting the food into the kitchen and
tables set. Tablecloths, dessert plates and punch cups were donated and fit
right into the "Harvest" theme. On Friday afternoon the ladies began
food preparations - slicing meat, washing and making salad, baking potatoes,
making punch, and making sure it would all be ready for our guests.

We also were blessed with many donated items for our Silent Auction and there was
opportunity to buy raffle tickets for a cottage that’s available for a week in
July and for a weekend in the Fall.

Dinner was served to over a hundred people and was delicious!  Pork Roulade, turkey, meatballs, mixed veggies, corn, baked potatoes, dinner rolls and Caesar salad as well as punch, coffee and dessert was on the menu.

To begin our evening we had praise-team members from Bethany CRC lead us in
songs of worship and Tim Van Hoffen led us in the reading of scripture.

Our program for the evening was a good combination of entertainment and
information.  We were so pleased to have Professor Hugh Cook that evening.  He did
two readings from his book.  Both were humourous, poking good-natured fun at our Dutch heritage and all the interesting nuances that arise out of our Dutch-Canadian life.  He was
well received! Tim Bootsma also came and was able to show a recent video on
what it’s like to be a part of a HANDS Team and a power point showing pictures from Belize and where we’ll be working.  We appreciate both Tim and Professor Cook coming and contributing to our successful evening.

Thank you to all who came out to support and encourage us.  Fundraising is hard but satisfying work.  It allows us to work as a team from the beginning and it allows the people around us and in our community to know more about what we will be doing and about EduDeo Ministries.

The cottage raffle tickets will be available until the end of January.  Please contact Lloyd or Anita Wierenga if you’d like to get in on it.  They are $20 each or 3/$20 for July 6-13, 2013 and $10 each for a weekend in the Fall – to be arranged with owners.
