Day 9

Dale Dale Duro, queremos dulce.  This means Hit it hard, we want sweets!!!

There was a birthday party in the preschool classroom for dear Shatzee!  Complete with presents and cake and a Dora PINATA. It was exciting and all the children took turns hitting the piñata and trying to open the piñata.  After the kids took turns and it still hadn’t opened, the “Canadians” got to take a turn.

First up was Karl and after some misses and hits, he passed the baton to Devon. Well, he was successful and the candy poured out of the piñata and the children went running and filled their pockets with sweets. There was much laughter and lots of food and love shown to the birthday girl as the students presented her with gifts and hugs.  I’m sure that their parents were really excited to have such hyper children for the afternoon.

The work around the church continued this morning. We took the forms off of the sidewalk in the front of the new preschool classroom and the parging of the front wall. This was a final coat of parging which requires great skill, so Sain worked on this alone while the team of Devon and Anita mixed the plaster for the parge and Ans was the guard of the parge.  Flowers were falling from the trees into the plaster, so the team had to pick them out and keep the plaster covered. Ed brought the plaster over to Sian and made sure he had the tools that he needed and supplys and helped to smooth down the wall.

The “ALT” team set to work on the walls of the washroom. They laid concrete blocks and sealed it with mortar and took off the forms around the foundation. They are getting pretty good at laying concrete blocks and building foundations, so they will all be taking these great skills home with them.  Anyone need any work done in this area?  Give them a call.  Everyone has been trying to get into their group, but they are pretty hard core. They did allow Karl to help this morning…but he had to pass initiation first. So they are working with Venicio on this project and they have a great relationship with each other and are learning lots from him.

In between tasks we are cleaning up and organizing the room that we have been using at the church. We have given Miss Leydi some school supplies and classroom material and games for the kids, so we have cleaned up shelves and sorting books and made room for these supplies.  We also gave a bag of supplies to the school we visited yesterday and we have a bag of supplies for the school we will be visiting tomorrow. We took the bus and were driven by Zair , Miss Leydi’s brother and he took us to   Cornerstone Presbyterian High school whose principle is Albert Zantingh, who has lived here for 28 years, but was originally from Smithville.  We had a great visit with him and enjoyed the tour of the school and meeting with students and seeing their classrooms. He sends his love to his family and friends back home.

We thought that the weather has been hot so far, but today was even hotter!!  The temperature was 35 degrees and with the humidity it was in the 40’s.  We have been dripping with sweat and have been drinking lots of water!!!  We will be attending prayer service tonight at the church, people probably won’t recognize us, we will  be the large puddle of water.  Just mop us up at the end of the service !!

We hope that you were able to enjoy the same beautiful sunset that we watched tonight from wherever you all are. It was beautiful and a great reminder of what an Awesome God we have.
