Hello, hola and bonjour to everyone. This is a little bit of a different post today, since as I'm writing this, we are currently in the airport. Our time in the Dominican Republic has come to an end, and we are all so sad to see it go.
Since this is our final post, it will be packed pretty full. First, I'll give you the run down on what we did the days leading up to our flight. We ended a bit abruptly the last time, so let's start at Saturday. We ended up taking a half day tip to go see Los Tres Ojos, or the three eyes, three underground caves. It was super cool, although there were a lot of stairs, not so good for the people who were still feeling it from the mountain. We ended up going across one of the lakes on a pull boat, and seeing a huge fourth lake that was super beautiful.
Monday we went to Renacer to say our final goodbyes to the students and teachers. We ate lunch together, had a great discussion with Mario about the impact the trip had on not only us but the other students too. That day we also started debriefing on how we may react to coming home and the struggles we might have.
Tuesday we visited the school that's on the same compound that our house was. We ended up splitting into different groups, some with the gym teacher, some with highschool kids and some with primary grades. I ended up helping face paint the grade 3 kids. We did another debrief session after, and then headed off to the Colonial Zone to buy souvenirs. We had to bargain the prices on everything, and some people got really good at it.
On Wednesday, we drove to Boca Chica, a vacation spot, where we stayed for around a day. It was a good wind down and end to the trip. We got to swim in the ocean and pool, eat at a buffet, and have a hot shower. We stayed up pretty late that night since we wanted to spend as much time together as possible.
Which brings us to Thursday in the airport.
We are thankful for all of your support and prayers over these 6 weeks, and for reading about our work. We had such an amazing and blessed time, and I could really see God work through the Dominican people here. Pray for a safe flight home, and an easy transition back to Canada.
Adios for the last time on behalf of all of us.
(But really I wrote this - Abby)
(Also thanks to my dad for the title)
