Hola a todos, over the past couple of days our group had the pleasure of meeting up with the students from the Renacer Christian Reformed School a couple of times. On Friday, we met with the entire grade 12 class and we had the opportunity to go to the zoo. While we were at the zoo we got the chance to develop stronger relationships with the students, and as we walked around we saw many different animals such as Bison, Camels, Tigers, Anteaters, Iguanas, Snakes, and much more. The Renecar people provided lunch for us which was so amazing. They each brought a lunch from home and shared them with us. After we ate we walked around some more for about an hour or so then left around 2:00 pm. Some of us had the interesting experience of trying to order food in Spanish, where we were met with a lot of blank stares. When we got back to the base Ms. Weening who is a teacher from TDCH came and she is staying with us till Tuesday.
On Saturday we spent the day at a Sinergia employee's house. She had a big pool which was very exciting for all of us. There were about ten Renacer students there, plus the owner's kids. We played games with them in the pool, as well as card games such as yuker, slap, dominos, spike ball, and more. We learned that you don't necessarily need to speak the same language as someone in order to communicate. They fed us lunch and dinner, which was so kind of them. For lunch, we had lasagna, chicken, rice, and delicious fruits and vegetables, including possibly the best plantains we've had on this trip. And for dinner we had hotdogs and hamburgers. We played some worship music. At one point we were all singing Oceans, us in English and them in Spanish, and it was so cool because we were singing the same song, and praising the same God but in different languages. At the end of the day, it started to pour, so we all ran to the van and got soaking wet. On the ride home, Jake entertained all of us with a "scary story" which definitely kept the ride interesting.
