Hola a todos! We're closing in on our last days in Dominican Republic and we all don't wanna go home. From the culture to the food and to the many cockroaches that have now become our best friends, we've surely grown in and adapted to this amazing country.
Tuesday was a day packed full of construction at Pena de Horeb. Unfortunately for me, the bugs took quite a liking to my flesh and caused a bit of an allergic reaction. But Benadryl came to the rescue and with that rescue also came many many naps throughout the day. I distinctly remember falling asleep while laying on the benches in the cafeteria. We were slim due to some people staying home because of sore stomachs, but managed to put in a full day of work. Each of us worked hard to mix, pour and level out the concrete that was needed for a cement pad. Later that night, we ate a delicious dinner prepared by Louisa and Carline and had a bit of free time. In this time everybody did different things including guitar, singing and acting out many skits. I was involved within the skit section of the night where I acted out how Jake and Andrew would react to certain situations. Let's just say we all went to bed with sore stomachs due to the amount of laughing there was.
Wednesday was another day of construction, our last day of construction at Pena de Horeb. It was a long day of painting all the walls and ceilings of the bathroom. But, the group made the most of whatever experience or challenge was thrown at them and still managed to laugh lots while still getting much work done. After working for the majority of the morning and afternoon, we were able to complete all 6 of the bathrooms and a walkway. Our reward: a trip to the waterfall. We all took a well deserved swim in the gorgeous water of Salto de Socoa and did a diving competition off of the rocks there. I walked downstream for a while and swam in many of the little pools along the way, it was beautiful. It was a bit of an emotional day considering it was our last day at construction and our last day at the waterfall; we're finally starting to realize that the trip is coming to an end. We finished our day off by piling all 12 kids into the back seat of the van to grab lunch and snacks for whatever adventure the next day brought us.
Overall, estoy viviendo el sueƱo
