Day 3 - 4: April 6-7
It's another sunny day here in the Dominican, and we are here to fill you in on the last couple of days. As it is easter weekend, our time has been pretty relaxed. We haven't met a lot of people yet, or done much work. But we have now moved into base and made it our home for the next six weeks.
So far we have just been chilling around the base playing lots of cards, volleyball, and bracelet making. However, we have helped clear out a workshop and gone on a couple walks. One to see the ocean and another to see our neighbourhood. We noticed that people came to try to talk to us although we struggled because of our limited spanish. The locals have been very enthusiastic with sharing their language, we have even had a in-class lesson by Franklin's cousin Joel.
While we are still adjusting to the weather here, the sudden bursts of rain have done their part in cooling us off. And we have taken advantage of it as much as we can even going as far as having dance parties and washing our hair in it.
We've brought a guitar with us and it has been put to good use. Often when you come into the house you can hear the guitar and some beautiful harmonies. During our circle times where we check in everyday, we are trying to learn How Great is Our God in spanish so we can sing it on Sunday in front of the church.
Most of us are feeling that we have been here for a long time already, even though it's only been four days. We also all get along really well so lots of laughs and good times come around. Some have been reading a book out loud in a british accent, chaotic card games, and getting things unstuck.
