Day 14 and 15 - April 17 - 18

Hey everyone,

This week we are spending most of the week doing construction. It has been a different pace and is a lot more physically demanding, but also rewarding.

Monday, we went to a feeding program called Funfanavi. Some of us went on a prayer walk around a neighbourhood of Haitians down by the river, others helped in the classroom. On the walk we saw lots of material poverty, a witch’s house, cows, and some kids bathing in a river. There were also lots of muddy puddles as that area often floods after rainfalls. When we got back from the walk we helped serve the kids lunch. Most of them come from the neighbourhood where we went for our walk. After lunch we went to tour one of the schools in a higher crime area. After dinner we had another Spanish lesson where we learned the parts of the body. Ava was home sick this this day, and Mina stayed home with her.

On Tuesday, we had our first real full construction day. We drove to a Christian school called Pena de Horeb, where we received a wonderful welcome, a bunch of the kids were dressed up in traditional Dominican clothes, and they did a little dance for us. Had a tour of the school, and then got to work. One of the teams before us had done the concrete work for half of a basketball court so our job was to finish the rest of it. We spent the day leveling the area and laying rebar so that it was prepped for concrete the next day. We did not get back to the ministry centre until 6:30. Ava and Jake were both home not feeling well this day.

Overall both days went very well. Please continue to pray for us.
