We had a great first weekend here in Santo Domingo. Saturday was a pretty uneventful day, which we spent at Mario's house, who is the Executive Director of Sinergia. We had a lot of fun walking in the river, sitting in the sun, eating amazing food, swimming in his pool, and getting to know Franklin's kids. A couple group members got very sunburned while working on their tans, but we did have some success. At the end of the day Mina was very proud of her sock tan. Saturday evening was interesting as well, as we had more adventures in the rain. At one point the boys emerged from their room in full snorkle gear, and proceeded to "swim" on the lawn. They had a great time, and the rest of us had a great time watching them.
On Sunday, Easter morning, some of us went on the roof to watch the sun rise. Then we had an incredible breakfast at home. We are still so impressed with the food, especially all the fresh mango and pineapple we have at almost every meal, along with our rice, beans, and chicken. After breakfast we attended Franklin's church for their Easter morning service. The congregation was really happy to see us, and they were even kind enough to sing Ten Thousand Reasons to us in English. We also did the second song, Break Every Chain, in both languages. We then got the oppertunity to sing our Spanish version of How Great is our God for them at the front, which went pretty well. After church we had lunch at Pappa John's Pizza and went to the mall to connect with home.
We are having a great time so far and are looking forward to meeting with our first school on Monday and having a chance to interact with more local people. Every experience we've had with locals so far has been great. Everyone is so friendly and eager to talk to us, especially children.
