Day 8

Hola its Meek-ki-alya (aka birthday girl) and Kaitlinlita,

Today the girls were woken up by the angelic cracky voices of the boys singing “Cumpleanos Feliz” to Mikaylita, yet to find out she was already awake… The breakfast that we were so blessed to have was pancakes, scrambled eggs, cereal and of course FRUIT! (the pineapple was incredible if you were wondering). Then scidattilly we went to the school where our first of many activities was to visit all the children from all the grades; colouring and playing games like “duck-duck-goose” and “stella stella hola”. Once the bell rang to commence chapel time, where we were blessed with once again an amazing ceremony of dancing and singing, where all of us got pulled to the stage and did some dancing. It was “muy divertido”. Our crew was blessed by the founder of the school who is now a pastor. We were filled with such love and we felt so blessed. After the blessing all of us were called to the stage one-by-one to receive gifts from the school which consisted of a water bottle, fanny pack, and a bookmark. We said goodbye to the rest of the students taking many 0.5’s, group photos and exchanging our Insta’s so that we can stay in contact.

NOW! It was time for business. We had our Canadian Presentation (duh-duh-duuuuuh), where Ryan had to seriously lock it in (which he did… are you proud Matthew??). The presentation went so well, so team pat yo self on the back! After the presentation we handed out all the Canadian snacks that we brought.  Everyone loved them. Yay.

Our time here went so fast, because right after we did our talent show… where yours truly who is also the B-day girl (Mikaylita), Carlalita and Annalita preformed the magnificent JUSTIN BEIBER performance (I believe that if it was a competition we would’ve won). After that strong start, our Nicaraguan friends did a fantastic job with their performance of “Dancing Queen” by ABBA. Then the other performances from our crew was Amanya (aka Amanda) who did an improv dance on the spot WOW! And then we had Ryaaannn who did a sweet job on the guitar.  And then we had Haven, Kajito, Evan, and Carly preform the well-known cup song… I guess it wasn’t that well known for Kaj and Evan as they had some minor difficulties passing the cup properly to the right person. Then the finale, which was our chicos, Nathen, Kaj, Kai, Evan, Ryan, Cameron, who sang the angelical doxology over us all… and you best believe it they didn’t voice crack (*gasp*).

After the talent show, we headed up to the top of the school for a surprise; birthday pinata and celebration! Mikayla, Nathan, and Kai got birthday cake, and Profe Saul was especially brutal on the snoopy pinata. Then we did a conga line with all the students downstairs and said our goodbyes. It was sad to wave goodbye to our friends, but this was truly an incredible experience.

Once we were on the bus, we found out that Kaj and his water wings had misplaced his water bottle. How did we discover this? Because we all noticed that instead of drinking from a water bottle, Kajito was using an empty three-litre bottle of Fanta. But he wasn’t the only Kai that made a mistake; Kia left his water bottle at the school. Such a Kai thing to do. Then we arrived at the market, which was so overwhelming beautiful and unique with all the different coloured items for sale. We drove back home listening to fantastic tunes selected by the birthday girl, Mikayla. Once we got hone, we said goodbye to our fantastic staff. There were mucho tears, and then we wrapped up with our final team time. We’re all truly grateful for this incredible experience, and we’re bringing home many stories to tell you (and hopefully some warm weather, too).

We're reading this blog, and your comments on the bus on our way from Seattle back home. So feel free to bring a smile to our face in the wee hours of the morning!

To Kervens, I wore clothes that I was okay to get paint on, so it was okay, but some of it did soak through our shirts, which was a surprise! Dad, I only had the Coke in a glass bottle once, so I won’t have withdrawal from it (although we did drink a lot of Coke this week). And Emmaus, we ate a ton of plantains, both chips and fried, pretty much every day, since they’re a Nicaraguan staple! Miss you all lots! See you soon!

Wow! What a trip. I’ve loved following along this week, thanks for posting such detailed blogs every day. Gotta say, all the talent show performances were pretty amazing, but my favourite was the guys singing the Doxology. Way to go! Goodbyes are hard and I shed a little tear as you were all waving goodbye to the school kids from the bus. Praying for safety as you travel home.
