Day 2

Hola chicos y chicas!

Its Mikaylalita and Carlalita aqui!

Let’s start from the top. This morning, we woke up to a cockroach in our room. We fought tooth and nail trying to slay the roach. After a few minutes of screeching from Mikayla, we had a yummy of breakfast of fruit, eggs, ham bacon, and beans! Chef’s kiss. Then, we went off to our first destination of many, which was San Juan de Oriente, the town known for pottery. Senor potter gave us a professional demonstration in his home, then he brought up two newbs to try in front of the team. Safe to say, they failed miserably and are banned from pottery town. For legal reasons, this is a joke. After the demos, we went up to the store in his home which was full of beautiful authentic art. Some of us had the privilege to buy some bowls and cups.

Next, we went ziplining over a volcano. Have no fear folks, the volcano was not active… we think. Anyways, we were able to enjoy ziplining without much mist (aka Secada pee). Some highlights were performing tricks with the guides such as Superchica y Superchico and hanging upside down. Another highlight was when Ryan had an oopsie when he was trying to scare Mikaylalita on the bridge. It backfired horribly, and his pulley plummeted down the volcano, into the depts of the dirt (poor precious, loving, sweet Ryan, as Matthew would say!). This meant he had to zipline down the rest of the way with a calm, cool, and collected guide, making our wait 6-7 minutes longer (teehee).

Following our ziplining adventure, we thanked our dear Nicaraguan ziplining friends and headed off to Tip-Top, Nicaraguan KFC, for lunch! It was muy delicioso! Then, we took a side quest to the city of Granada where we visited souvenir shops (stay tuned for your gifts <3) and toured Lake Granada, learning some history about the islands and many wealthy coffee entrepreneurs and presidents that own houses on the islands. Fun fact: did you know that the 375 islands on the lake are from pieces of the volcano that erupted?! Wow, so fascinating. Gracias, Profe Saul! Also, we saw some really twanty (cool) creatures. Monos (monkeys) were in the trees on their own island and crocodiles were lurking into the swampy water, that we fortunately did not go too close to! Our boat guide had W rizz in our opinion while effortlessly reaching for a fresh island flower and gifted it to Evan. He felt bonita, we’re sure.

After many amazing photoshoots of the scenery, we went back to the dock on the beach, scurried onto the air-conditioned bus, and zoomed off into the distance towards Atomic Pizza, which really blew us away indeed! Before we enjoyed our out-of-this-world pizza, we played Never Have I Ever, and yours truly (Carlalita) won! Once we finished our yummy-in-our-tummy food, we hopped onto our now-party-bus, where we sang songs from Encanto and Let It Go. It was a time of bonding and companionship with our team. We finished our day with team time, singing Way Maker en espagnole (it was a little rusty, but we’ll get better), Spanish lessons, debriefing the day, and preparing for tomorrow! The team had such a long, yet exuberant day. Thank you for your comments and prayers. Don’t forget to sign your comment with a recognizable name, and a last name if you’re feeling fancy! We miss you all so much, but we don’t miss your weather! Just FYI, the temperature today was 30 degrees, light breeze just flowing gracefully through our hair, and our sunglasses were merely accessory. Don’t fret, we wore sunscreen and drank tons of agua.

Signing off, Mikaylalita and Carlalita!

Special shoutouts: Amanya says “hi Shota.” And we hope the El Salvador team arrived safely and are getting comfortable.

Miss and love you all!

Yo team!! Take a moment to admire Ryan’s massive calves and reflect upon how much I love him because he is my little brother. He is so kind hearted and he loves buying me jerseys from other countries. Praying for you all that God would work through you and in you in incredible ways. I wanted to share this sick Bible verse with you: — “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭14‬— I wanted to exhort you all to remember that God has some incredible ministry that he is inviting you all to join into! You have been sent already, and now there is work to do! Have fun and enjoy the trip to the max; also be sober minded that some of these kids are not Christians and you have a unique opportunity to share love and the gospel with them. A quote I DONT like is: “Preach the Gospel at all times; use words when necessary.” Words ARE necessary! Be intentional about sharing the gospel and about your faith, explicitly mentioning God and the core gospel message of Jesus sacrifice! Praying for you lots, the grace and peace of Jesus be with you all. Peace out, Matt 🤙

Hey guys! It's awesome to see you guys diving into all the cool spots like Mount Mombacha ziplining, the boat tour, and pottery town. By the way, Kaj, nice skirt! and mug :) And, you know, if I could've given Evan that flower I definitely would've :) Here's some exclusive Marshall advise: the days are very long and busy, but take some time to reflect. Take lots of pictures! Seize every opportunity you have to put yourself out there (despite the language barrier) and just have fun, especially with the boys ;)

It was so delightful reading this post and seeing the photos! I’m so happy for all of you (and a little bit jealous). I’m very curious to know how zip lining went for Amanya. (It looked super fun but I know it wasn’t on the top of Amanya’s list of things to do…) Excited to see your next update!

Amazing!!! Looks like you all had such a blast and 30 degrees is nice. Evan lucky to get the lake flower! Saw Mr Riez hanging upside down. I was a bit surprised I always thought he was a bit too square to go inverted. Way to go Mike, good thing you ate tip top after the zipping or you’d have painted the jungle with pollo vom. Ew. Atomic pizza is awesome. We should serve it at acs for our Thursday lunch fundraiser. Crocodiles are you kidding me. I’ve never seen those, so cool! Hope you all have an amazing time at Verbo church tomorrow. Say hi to pastor Hultner for me. He used to work at the Nehemiah center. Oh by the way the chicken is great at the beach. And if you get stuck in a riptide don’t try to swim back to shore. Swim parallel to the shore till the tide lets you go then swim back to shore. Also pelicans are awesome! Have a blast! Miss you all.

It is great to hear that the team had a fun day exploring the beauty of the country. I like how you explored both your creative and adventurous sides! Kaj es un buen alfarero! When you read this it will be Sunday, so I would like to share this verse with you: “And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭NLT‬‬ May all of you be filled with words from the Spirit and enjoy all of the gifts God is giving to you! Enjoy your time together experiencing new things, learning and building relationships!

From what I’ve heard, the El Salvador team has had safe travels! I can’t wait to hear about how this trip has impacted you all in person, since I bet the photos don’t do it justice! Also, I think Kaj should leave the skirt(?) wearing to Mikayla…she looked super cute.
