Hola amigos y familia! It’s Carlita y Lucita here!
This morning, we mixed up the morning wake-up routine. Instead of Profe Saúl waking us up with music, all of us girls woke up early and serenaded the boys’ room with a loud “Happy Birthday” song for adult Nathan.
Breakfast was omelettes, fresh fruit, and gallo pinto as usual (rice and beans). Shortly after, we hit the road and headed to visit our amigos at the school.
We started our day off strong with a worship session, singing in both English and Spanish, and then hearing powerful testimonies from both Canadian and Nicaraguan students of how God has worked in their lives. We ended with prayer and then sang “Feliz Cumpleaños” again to voting-age Nathan.
After devos, we had a quick turnaround to change into our work clothes and got right to work, continuing to paint the outside wall and our beautiful mural! While working, we were treated to some Taylor Swift and other classic bangers by a friendly neighbor who we guess saw us and thought we needed some music to get the job done. Which we did, by the way, although Anna probably got more paint on Lucy than she did on the wall.
For our lunch of rice, chicken, beans, and plantain chips, we got split up into four different groups, each with a translator to help make conversations easier and more meaningful. During these conversations and getting to know the students better, Profe Mike came around and handed out Canadian maple candies (although many of us had never seen them before) to students willing to answer his questions about which superpower we would want.
Then, we wasted no time in getting back to work. One group put a second coat of paint on the wall, while the rest of us finished painting out parts of the mural. Meanwhile, we could hear some of the Nicaraguan students practicing their dance for the talent show (to be seen tomorrow!).
While finishing up the mural, we got our hands dirty and covered each other’s shirts in colorful handprints, names, and Nicaraguan slang! Of course, it was only a matter of time before the paint wasn’t only on our shirts, but also in unwanted places. Right before our eyes, a big bucket of Minion yellow paint wobbled on the table and teetered over, hitting the ground with a loud kaboom, coating shoes, the floor, the table, a student, and, gasp, our beautiful mural. Thankfully, it didn’t splatter on any of our Picasso-worthy masterpiece, just narrowly missing the artwork.
Then we got all cleaned up within a few minutes, with Profe Saúl diligently keeping paint off the bus by having each of us gracefully twirl in front of him and onto the bus!
We had a calm ride, with Nathan, the birthday boy, having the privilege of choosing our driving music. We listened to TobyMac and some classic oldies to match his adult status, while some of us rested our eyes and recovered from the long day of work.
Home again, many of us took cold showers to get relief from the heat or had quick naps before dinner. Joining us for dinner was a local guest and his family. We enjoyed delicious mushroom chicken, rice, beans, and pico de gallo. This was followed by yummy birthday cake, with yet another “Happy Birthday” song to both birthday chicos!
Soon after, we sat down for a fascinating story of the history of Nicaragua from our guest!
Following our history lesson, we had our nightly team time, where some of us got the giggles as we practiced our Canadian foods presentation. It’s very hard to take Ryan seriously when he was talking about ketchup chips, which “taste like ketchup on chips,” according to him, especially for Profe Saúl, who had to look away for the rest of his slide.
Then we took some time to read over all of your lovely comments (keep them coming por favor!) This week has flown by, and we can’t believe that tomorrow is already our last day!
We love and miss you all (but maybe not your weather). Adios de todos!
Carlita & Lucita

Happy Birthday Nathan! I'm glad that you are my friend and how you are always brutally honest. It's so cool how guys shared your testimonies with the Centro de Fe students - I'm excited to hear how God has worked through that process, and really this entire trip, as sadly you'll have to come back to rainy, rainy Abbotsford

Sounds like you’re really having a blessed time there, and your time is a blessing those whose loves you touched. We can’t wait to hear about all your experiences in person, and we’re excited to have you back home soon! Have safe travels (and I hope you snapped some pictures of soiled that yellow paint, I want to know if it matches the scene I have in my head lol)

Another great update- thank you! Lucita, Kervens wants to know how fun was it getting paint on your clothes? Dad wants to know if you're ready for the Coke in glass bottle withdrawal when you get home. And Emmaus wants to know how many plantains have been eaten on this trip. We miss you and can't wait to hear more stories about how God has been working in your lives this past week!

Wishing you many blessings for your last day in Nicaragua. By the time you read this it will be over, and we hope that it was filled laughter, joy and amazing memories. While we are thrilled that we will be seeing you soon, we're sure that it will be difficult to leave. It sounds like it has been an amazing trip filled with memories that you will always treasure. We pray that God has worked in your hearts and filled you with a deeper faith, a wider understanding of His love for you, and a stronger desire to share His love with others. Praying for your safety on the way home, and that everything goes well. Enjoy your last morning of waking up in the sunshine! You certainly won't be doing that here. :)

Ok. Yes more paint on ppl than on the walls that is what I recall. Who put the paint bucket on the edge of the table? Sheesh. Glad the testimonies went well. CDF really appreciates that time with us. Glory to Go for his faithfulness!!! The mural is looking awesome! Can’t wait to see the Golden Arches on there. I wish I could be there for the talent show. Hey no one has said anything about Gilbert or Carla! How are they doing?!? Hope the Sun burns are healing well. Today could be a sad one, saying goodbye to new friends and saying good bye to the epic adventure you have all been on. Like Marcel shared a few weeks back, it’s important to wonder about why you personally were invited, selected, trained and why you went, participated, learned and led in this adventure. You saw first hand the Glory of God! His goodness, His faithfulness His steadfastness in our tea and in the world of your new Nicaraguan family. Your questions to wrestle with the next few days is why? And what? Why did God give me this opportunity? What does God want from me now that I have encountered HIS glory? What a blessing you are. What a blessing you have received. What a blessing you will continue to be as you continue to behold his glory! I’m proud of you all! Evan, Nathan, Carla and Mikayla, Nilda can show you where the good soccer jerseys are at the market. Cya you all soon!!! KoenRAAD

SO proud of you, Amanya, for sharing your testimony. You are a precious treasure. Even when things are hard, don’t forget that God uses all things for the good of those who love Him. And I know you love Him. So have faith. You are precious to God and He has great plans for you. He is, and will be, using you to be a blessing to others. 2 Corinthians 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what odd unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

It's great to hear that testimonies were shared at the school. The artwork / mural work looks fun and colourful, and the food makes me hungry despite having already eaten dinner. Kind of surprised to see Kaj not wearing the coveted water wings... he will definitely need them to swim from the house to the car with all of the rain we are having. We're excited to see you again and can't wait to hear more personal stories when you return home in a few days.
