We started off with a very early wake-up to meet at the church for 3:00am. Pastor Chris sent us off with a prayer and we headed down the highway to the Buffalo airport where we arrived in plenty of time. However, we had a delayed take-off because we had to be de-iced a couple of time. We made it to Atlanta with 15 minutes to spare, despite the delayed departure, arriving us in Belize around 12:00. Customs went well and we went outside to await the bus in humid, balmy weather. What a change from the snow/ice storm we started out with.
After an hour of waiting for the school bus and Pastor Alvaro, John led is in prayer for their safety and a quick arrival. That answer to prayer came just as the words were spoken. Pastor Alvaro and his assistant Angie arrived with a 14 passanger van and a story to tell. The school bus had broken down on route to pick us up and a quick arrangement was made with the medical centre to use their van. After picking up some snacks and piling in the van like sardines, we continued our journey to Corozal Town. Just as the Pastor showed us where the bus was, BANG! we blew a tire. We pulled to the side of the road, piled out and looked a the damage. Rubber tires were all over the road. After much effort on the part of the guys... there was no change in the situation :) Pastor Alvaro walked over to pick the bus at Caribbean Tire, which was now fixed. We once again loaded all the suitcases on to the new vehicle and eventually the guys got new tire put on and we continued on our journey. Angie driving the van and Alvaro driving the bus for us.
We stopped in at Redeemer Presbyterian Pre-school to see the work that we will be doing and the current classroom and church. From there we were driven to our motel, right on the water front in Corozal, to check-in. We were provided with a barbeque chicken dinner prepared by the ladies from the school. We then took a leisurely walk along the water front. Now we are just about to start devotions and headed to our much needed beds!
