Day 7

Sunday, a day of rest and worship. We were invited by Ken and Liz Westerhof, sister and brother-in-law of Bernie and Brenda, to come and visit them at their place in Belize. We had the blessing that an anonymous person arranged to have transportation provided for us to go to Orchid Bay and spend the day there.

In order to get to the bay, we had to cross two rivers by a manually powered ferry.  Everyone wanted a chance to operate the ferry, which was an experience.  We traveled for an hour on a very bumpy road along the coast. Our prayers were answered for a sunny day after many days of down pours and cloudy skies.  We enjoyed time in the Carribean Sea, with kayaking, paddle boarding and walking through the water.  The water was very shallow and warm.  It was also a day of lounging, reading, walking, exploring, and talking.  The donor also arranged for a delicious lunch and soon after we were driven back to our hotel so we could get ready for the afternoon church service in San Narciso. The service was mostly in Spanish but the sermon was both Spanish and English. Pastor Alvaro preached on  1 Thessalonians 4:1-12. The main focus was "The more we know God, study his Word; the more we are able to love God and others". During our evening devotions, we have been doing alot of singing. We asked if we could sing a couple of songs during the service.  We sang "Speak O Lord" before the sermon and "My Friends May You Grow in Grace" at the end of the service. Pastor Alvaro translated the song into Spanish for the congregation before we sang it.  We then asked everyone to join hands around the church as we sang the song. It was very moving to see and hear two nationalities join their hands in praise to God. A few tears were wiped quietly. We enjoyed another prepared supper right after the service and then left for the hotel. Bible study and debriefing followed.

Thank you again for your prayers.  There is a group of doctors and nurses from Illinois, sponsored by the Catholic Church, staying at the same hotel as us. They are hosting medical clinics at near by villages for a week. It turns out that on Saturday the lady and her blind son who asked for our help this week, came to their clinic.  They arranged for an eye doctor's appointment for the little boy in Orange Walk Town on Monday.

Please keep on praying. God answers prayers!
