Day 8

Today was a wonderful, hot, sunny day. Pastor Alvaro picked us up and took as to the furniture store where we bought a wooden desk and chair to Leydi, the preschool teacher. We also bought a fan for her classroom. We ordered a two drawer filing cabinet for all her loose papers and teacher resources. This money came from the students of Beacon Christian School.

She was very excited and thankful to receive this gift. The team was busy with various jobs in the morning; from teaching to fixing the side view mirror on the bus. In the afternoon we visited the nearby Bethel Presbyterian Elementary School in Cristo Rey, a 10 minute drive from San Narciso. It is the oldest Christian school in Belize and was started by a missionary in the 1970’s. It is also the only independent school, meaning that they have no control over the way the school is run or the curriculum. The teachers here do not receive a salary from the government like the other schools do. The principal, Miguel, said that they are ranked 2nd from the 42 schools in the district. He asked for us to pray for the spiritual well-being. They are currently struggling with a couple of the students taking drugs. As we were taken on the tour each of the classes that we visited recited a bible verse and a few songs. When we got back to San Narciso, Mark and John went with Vanancio and Sion to pick up 102 logs of bush wood. Some of the ladies started to fix the broken screens of the meeting room we are using. Irene was helping Leydi with preparing workbooks for the students.

This morning we heard about a horrific fire accident in the village. A three year old boy died in the house fire and his mother is in the hospital with 2nd degree burns over her upper body. Please pray for this lady and her family.

Thank you for your comments and prayers!
