Day 10

Today is a day of mixed feelings. Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when the people you are saying good bye to, have become an important part of our life journey. Two weeks ago we came into this experience not knowing what was ahead of us. We knew that the school had come quite far already just with the local construction crew. Looking back now, we weren’t the only ones anxious about what lay ahead.

The congregation here wanted to show their appreciation for the work that would be done and the money that was raised. Each day they were so concerned about how we were feeling, if we had enough to eat, enough water to drink, and how the heat was affecting us. As the week went along we all began to relax and share stories of our lives and cultural background. This made the whole experience that much more meaningful. We also learned how to walk together spiritually. Most of the time it seemed as though they were doing so much more for us, than us for them. After the prayer service last night, we think that it is safe to say that we were all a blessing to each other, brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus Christ. Well, enough talk about feelings. J We accomplished a lot around the school today. The exterior of the church and school was given a facelift with a fresh coat of paint. The supplies to continue our work on the new classroom were picked up by a couple of the guys and arrived by noon. They were happy to continue the work so that they could remain on Venancio’s schedule. This morning was Irene’s last morning of teaching the pre-school students. To end the time with them we played with the bubbles outside. One of the students kept on repeating, “I like to play with bubbles!” It seemed as though they all shared this sentiment. They didn’t understand that they would not be seeing us after today, which made it easier all around.  We ended our time in San Narciso with a delicious supper, provided by Elsa.  All the ladies who provided meals for us came to say good bye. We asked them to sit down and enjoy the meal with us. There was again a lot of food to share. After supper, we gave the women small gifts to show our appreciation.  We wrote a Bible verse, signed our names, and Beacon Christian School’s name on the back of the desk. The desk was presented to Leydi, on behalf of the students at Beacon. Leydi presented pictures that her students created, to give to Irene’s students.  She also gave a picture of her class, and presented Bernie with a beautiful wooden carving of humming birds, with a thank you card on the behalf of San Narciso community.

Please continue to pray for us as we travel home tomorrow. We hope that there will be no major transportation problems.

Thank you for all your support during this mission trip.
