Prior to Departure - Devotions on Building Blocks to a Righteous Life by Valerie and Maraya

2 Peter 1:5-11

"For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."

In this passage, Peter encourages us to grow in our faith by adding specific qualities to our lives, such as knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love. In order to grow in our knowledge of God, we need to keep adding to the good qualities we already have. These qualities serve as the building blocks for a righteous life, helping us to become a better reflection of who God is. As we prepare for our trip to the Dominican Republic, let us remember that our ultimate goal is not just to complete tasks or get caught up in the small details, but instead to glorify God and make his love known to all we encounter. When we cultivate the values that reflect God's character these values will flow into our actions as well, helping us to demonstrate the love of Christ to everyone we encounter.
