We began another beautiful day at the Mwase Primary School with introductions of three nearby villages helping for the day and a prayer. Once we were properly introduced, the staff once again attacked the stucco with a gusto. It's heavy labour, and the team made it through the last two classrooms. With hard work, the final stucco should be removed by Saturday.
Once we'd had the lunch, the team moved on to a tour of the Mwase Secondary School where a previous Hands team had worked to construct a new classroom facility. In one of the pictures, you can see the kitchen facility for the girls who live in the dormitory at the school. They stay for two weeks and then return home for a visit and more food. We also witnessed them teaching accounting and chemistry in the classrooms and working with the computers that had been donated by EduDeo. I was personally glad to see that they were using Linux on Raspberry Pi's. We were impressed with the work that is being accomplished at the school.
Once we had toured the school, we were invited to a local village (Ellen's village) to see how the students live. The visit was fascinating and we received a very warm welcome replete with a welcoming song of the village. Among other things, we toured the fields, tasted raw cassava (kind of has a grainy taste), and learned that the founder of the village (a Zulu) had over 100 sons. It was a highlight of the trip.
We were so enthralled by the visit to the village, that it was dark when we headed back to Lundazi. Our driver drove us expertly through mud, pouring rain, and single track roads. It was quite a day.
