After a few days of lengthy travel, we have started work on the Mwase Primary School. We started out the day pushing the bus to get it started and then driving out to the work site. We had a fantastic driver in Moffat, who got us through more tight spots than I would have thought possible. Some of those roads were pretty sketchy, and he got us there in style.
Once there, the community pulled out all the stops to welcome us and prepare everyone for the work ahead. There were local dances, poems, songs, and many welcoming speeches from parents, officials, teachers, pastors, and students. We even joined in a dance or two ourselves!
After lunch, we got started on the school. We're doing lots of demolition to remove the floors and portions of the walls. The community and the team worked hand in hand, and Jerry worked on teaching a song to the kids. All in all, it was a great start to the project.
