Day 5

Hola everyone, this is Eva and Keziah taking over the blog for day 5! Today we ate a hearty breakfast and set out for a busy day at Centro de Fe.

Upon arrival we were greeted by our friends of the graduating class where Lucas and Austin led us in devotions. We ended devotions by singing our long anticipated song of "Waymaker" in Spanish, and though we may have butchered some lyrics, it was a beautiful moment when all the Nicaraguans joined in (Roy cried).

When ACS headed off into the elementary classes, the grade 11 Nicaraguans got to read the letters written by Saúl's (Mr. Carvajal) Spanish class back home.

While they read the lovely letters, the team spent the morning with the elementary students. Keziah, Kailyn and Eva read books about the creatures of the Arctic to the delightful elementary students. In the grade 6 class things may have gotten slightly out of hand when some of the team decided to dramatize the story which ended with Matthew flopping on the ground in an impressive imitation of a walrus. Check the Instagram story for the reenactment - it's not to be missed. After the story, we colored pictures of the Arctic animals with the students, knowing nothing else to say but "muy bonita" to all of the incredibly vibrant coloring pages.

In the grade 3 and 8 classes, things went a little different. Ms. Stewart's grade 3 class and Mrs. Schut's grade 8 class, wrote letters to the grade 3's and 8's of Centro de Fe. Each of the students received a letter addressed to them and gave our team the challenge of translating the letters for each of the students.

In the heat of the day, with the help of the translators, we shared presentations about the Indigenous people of the both respective countries, followed by our team and the grad Nicaraguan class sharing our testimonies. It was such an amazing experience to realize how God works through students in similar ways in such different cultures.

At the end of the school day, our sweaty team packed up and were given the opportunity to visit some of the homes of the Nicaraguan students. We all had the incredible opportunity to gain a glimpse into the lives of four of our new friends and their families. Things took a turn when Noah was greeted by a particularly excited puppy named Bobby who decided to mark his territory on Noah's unfortunate right pant leg.

We then headed back to the Nehemiah center and had a wonderful devotions led by Kiara and Alex. (Roy and Austin cried)

From sandy crevices to sweaty cracks, the team has truly persevered through this trying weather.

All in all, the day was full of highs, a lot of buffaloes, and swass (it's a real thing).

Thanks for reading,

P.S. Mrs. Hiebert, you are crushing it! You are 4/6 right now, keep up the good work!

P.P.S. We also love our parents. Miss you? (Just kidding! We are constantly thinking about you!)

Hey Bean! I know how much you LOVE really hot weather :-( I hope you are finding some relief from it and are drinking lots of water (I can still "mom" you from far away! LOL). Things at home are weird without you here. Fernando had his follow up scope today and his ulcers are 90% gone! yay! (feel free to explain the importance of that to everyone else who had to hear about it just now). Riggs is getting so big, and he REEALLLLY wants to play with Magpie. I started counting down the days until you are home...only 4 sleeps! LOVE YOU SO SO SO MUCH!!

Marshall would find 4/6 an unacceptable grade, so perhaps I shall retire from naming his every mannerism and emotion moving forward… it’s been fun, but I think it’s time. Well Marshall, today I am in Logan Lake with Brooke and have some family visits taking more of my usual free time, so I’m very sorry but my comment for today will be a tad shorter and perhaps less witty cause time. I know you’re disappointed. I’ll do better tomorrow. I’m so proud of you for sharing your testimony! You are brave. Can’t wait to hear all about your home visit. So many little kids at the school… hopefully you found that time enjoyable despite your aversion to most children. I also hope you’re finding spaces and times to chill despite all of the busyness! Love you. Oh and I HAVE to comment on Matthew the walrus!!!! Oh my lanta that was the best thing I’ve seen in a long time and I won’t even tell you how many times I’ve watched it. So impressed Matthew- you really found a gifting there and I’m so happy you shared it with all of us! Umm, so I assume Noah will stay in Nicaragua now that he’s been officially marked? Good thing he has some family there to support this huge life change and say to say goodbye. Roy will cry no doubt. I’m hilarious. Also I’m terrible at writing less it seems, oh well. Covering you all in prayer as always. PS. Hi Eva! Great write up. Hope the letters were well received!
