Hey fam jam! Ruby and Jayla here from the Nicaragua team. We're taking over the blog today and will be talking about our 2nd cultural day exploring.
We started the morning with a yummy breakfast of omelettes and fruit. Soon after, Lester picked us up for church at Verbo. Entering the sanctuary, we were instantly welcomed by friendly greeters and translators who helped us understand the service. We started with worship, all in Spanish. Even though we didn't understand the words we were singing; it was so clear that the presence of God was in that room. What a beautiful thing to worship a God that transcends language and country with fellow believers in Nicaragua. Roy cried (and he wasn't the only one).
After church, we returned to the Nehemiah center for a quick lunch before heading to la playa. In preparation for our time at the beach, the team went crazy with the sunscreen, lathering up with layer upon layer to try to stand a chance against the blazing Nicaraguan sun. However, one unnamed member of the team thought they were too good for sunscreen (... didn't end well).
We rode the bus for an hour and many slept in preparation for a fun-filled afternoon. We disembarked at Pochomil on the Pacific Ocean. The beach was busy, as many Nicaraguan families spent their Sunday in the sun. The beach was home to many activities which filled our afternoon. Marshall, Keziah and Eva took advantage of the horseback riding, while others took to spike-ball, walking the beach, volleyball, and relaxing in the hammocks. The waves were not to be underestimated either and pummeled almost every team member. Salt got in every crevice, and sand got in every crack.
Dinner was served on the beach, and ranged from breaded fish to chicken nuggets to garlic fish (apologies to any victims of the garlic breath). Soon after, as the sun began to sink, it was time to head back to the Center.
Walking back to the bus, we realized a lobster was joining us for the ride.... oh wait, that was Brendan. The bus ride back was peaceful and we were blessed with a beautiful sunset. The back of the bus rang with Allison's laughter until the last fifteen minutes, when her bladder said ENOUGH!! and the threat of peeing in a bottle (/on students) forced Lester to drive faster. Thankfully, we arrived safe, sound, and dry.
To wrap up our day, devotions were led by Julie and Carly... Roy cried. Even though we all got kissed by the sun today, we had so much fun exploring more of beautiful Nicaragua and getting to know our incredible God more. Thanks everyone for your continued support and love. Signing off, Ruby and Jayla xoxo

A beautiful and rich church service and worship time I'm sure you will never forget! So cool. Your day at the beach playing games, horseback riding, and wave jumping looks amazing! Marshall your ocean jump in that group pic is EPIC so congrats on your perfect timing! You must have done some serious mental mathematical equations to procure this summative conclusion. I have NO idea if what I just said makes any sense at all!! I'm not even going to try googling any of those words to see if they work together. Marshall clearly gets his math brain from his father. I'm so curious if Marshall went fully into the ocean... he's not a fan of sand in all of his parts, but I mean, who is? There was this one time after a day at White Rock.... nope, I will not share that story. You're welcome, Marshall. You can pick your jaw up off the floor now at the thought of me sharing that core memory. I mean, I already said 'sand in all of his parts' which I imagine has him pretty red with both embarrassment as well as fury towards me. You know Marshall, your team has really been encouraging me with these comments and the ramblings that I am so great at, so your fury should really be redirected. Think about it. Love you bud- know that Grandpa is doing okay and I haven't forgotten to take care of Ramaldee. Covering you all in prayer. P.S. Don't be a Brenden- wear sunscreen, people!!

Hi Ruby and every one of course, we are reading your team updates as they come and are thoroughly enjoying them. Through them we reminisce on our trips to Nicaragua and remember the activities and work we did. We are grateful you all get to experience a similar experience of worshipping in a transcultural setting and seeing God’s love at work in all, conversing when language is a barrier-and seeing that communication and caring still happens, and seeing the joy on the students face in spite of their poverty, and so much more. Enjoy your time there. Allow God to work in and through you. Can’t wait to chat Ruby. God bless!
