After breakfast at the Nehemiah Center we made our way to the Bautista Libertad School.
Immediately upon our arrival we were greeted by so many students of all ages that were so excited to meet us! We jumped right in with “Hola”, high fives, basketball, soccer, and just connecting with the students.
We then assembled in the church sanctuary with some of the students from the school. We enjoyed a beautiful program put together by the students that included singing, prayers, an amazing solo, and a presentation of cultural dishes. We also listened to a message from the pastor of the church.
Next, we had some more time to connect with the students through sports, by sharing our photo books, and conversing through translators.
We then split into groups each with a translator to visit the classrooms. We were amazed by the excitement of the students as we entered the classroom! We were able to answer questions about Canada and give many hugs and ‘autographs’ in notebooks. The excitement of the students was contagious!
After a delicious lunch, we were given the opportunity to gain a better understand of how the students in Nicaragua live. We broke into groups including students from BL school and walked through the city to visit some of the students’ homes. We were so impressed by the hospitality of the families even though they have so much less than we do at home in Canada.
We finished our night as a group with devotions that focused on Philippians. We took time to focus on this mission as we reflected on our day.
This opportunity really showed us how blessed we are as well as the importance of hospitality and a loving attitude regardless of our experiences.
On behalf of entire team, Emma
