Back to School

Sup Homies

Unfortunately our hotel's internet was down yesterday, so we were unable to blog.

Yesterday was our day away.  We got up at our regular time and boarded the school bus to go and vistit some Mayan Ruins.  We were all very excited, but what we didn't know was that the most interesting part of our day was not going to be the ruins...

On top of the Sun god Temple, resting beside the chopping block, where three little local boys, Jalin, Jahid, and Omar.  Their parents sent them their every day with Tim, their pet baby crocodile, and Rambo, their turtle.

After paying the fee to get our pictures taken, we left the temple and continued on our way. Only to have the little boys follow us. We then proceeded to make friends with them, and while some continued touring the ruins, a few of us stayed back and played with them.  Tag seemed very fun, until they realized that they could turn around and chase us with the crocodile!

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our new friends. We returned to the hotel and had a brief rest before getting ready for church.  Despite the fact that church was in Spanish, Mario did a fantastic job of making all of us feel included.

Today was an exciting day for the team.  School is back in session.  This means back to work for Ruth, but it also means that we are experiencing a whole new working environment.  Now, all of our jobs are done with an audience.  The children love to peek around corners to see what the 'Americans' are doing. Also, Grace has been given the opportunity to put her teaching skills to use. She will be helping out in the Standard 4 classroom, (Grade 5) for the next week.

Some highlights of the day included Gertie getting stopped in the hallway to be hugged by a small preschooler, and the Dekker girls teaching and being taught new games with the kids.

We ended the day in the pool with Atch and Rumari, Ruth and Mario's children.

All in all it has been a fantastic two days.

Hope you all are well!

Love from, the Hands Team.
