Secondary education is extremely limited in Northern Malawi. Across the education system there is limited opportunity due to space, finances, and travel, meaning that only 17 out of 100 school aged children attend secondary school.
Kapoka Secondary School was founded to help close this gap. Chitipa, the town the school is located in, is very rural which means this school can offer opportunities to students who otherwise would have none. Our partner in Malawi is responsible for 60% of education in Northern Malawi and good exam results help them to continue to expand opportunities for students.
But Kapoka lacks a science laboratory, which is a vital component for students to succeed in national exams. Without it, students cannot gain the knowledge they need to pass. And if they fail, they are barred from continuing their education.
One student, Junior Mtika, shared it simply: “without a lab, we only hear explanations instead of doing experiments. If we had a laboratory, we could understand better and succeed.”
We need your help to build a fully equipped science laboratory at Kapoka Secondary School. This lab will prepare students for exams, open doors to university, and create pathways to employment, especially in STEM fields. It will also give students a way to explore God’s creation, fostering both intellectual and spiritual growth.
“Not having a science laboratory is a very big problem because teachers cannot teach science subjects in a practical way. Students struggle to understand lessons, and most of them fail science exams more than other subjects” notes MacDonald Muywanga the Principal at Kapoka.
The community has raised 40% of funding and materials already. This financial commitment shows how necessary they believe the project is and reflects a deep commitment to Christ-centred education.
Will you help them complete the lab?
