In the heart of Nicaragua is Kenneth Hanna Christian School. Day after day, year after year, they take God’s call to make room for all His children and put it into action. And that is evident when you look at how they welcomed one special child: Sergio.
Sergio’s journey of finding room was not an easy one. Many people saw his wheelchair as a barrier. Irma, Sergio’s mother, reached out to a school for his education, but was quickly turned away. “They told me they couldn’t take Sergio because the first-grade teacher quit.” This wasn’t true, and Irma knew it. “Maybe the school didn’t have the right facilities, or the teacher didn’t have the proper training.” But Irma didn’t want to listen to the excuses. There was no room for Sergio, so she kept trying other schools.
Then she came to Kenneth Hanna. “From the beginning, they opened the doors to us. They never said no. The other students accepted him, and they showed him respect right from the beginning.”
There was a special place for Sergio, and accepting him into the school was not a question for the principal, Maria: “We didn’t say no when Sergio came to the school. We love having him here, and we love showing him Jesus’ love. He’s very special and he knows he’s special to us.”
Many children in the majority world face obstacles to education because of physical disabilities. EduDeo’s partners are changing the story with their unconditional love for these children. They are showing their communities that all people have inherent worth and value in Christ.
