This year marks a historic milestone for education in Rwanda: the official launch of Christian Schools Rwanda (CSR). This newly registered network of schools is committed to a shared vision, discipling students as lifelong Christ-following leaders through quality, Christ-centered education. Schools are highly regulated in Rwanda so the government allowing this organization to exist is a significant achievement. This milestone would not have been possible without the faithful generosity of our donors and partners.
The launch event was a celebration filled with inspiring speeches, heartfelt prayers, and a sense of anticipation for what God is doing in Rwanda. Among those in attendance was Tom Deelstra, EduDeo Ministries’ Walking Together Program Lead, who reflected on the significance of the day:
“It was an incredible privilege to be at the launch of Christian Schools Rwanda. Hearing from the board representatives and seeing staff and volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes reminded me of the vision and tenacity that built similar organizations in Canada decades ago. To witness that same spirit here in Rwanda was deeply moving.”
The event brought together the community. Leaders from other local organizations joined in the celebrations, united by a shared mission: to see Christ-centered education flourish across the country.
Strategic Planning with Purpose Following the launch, Tom joined the CSR board for a visioning retreat in the hills outside Kigali. Over two and a half days, the team prayed, planned, and dreamed together. Tom recalls:
“From gazing out over the hills of Rwanda and envisioning what God might do through CSR, to writing specific action plans, the board was inspired and equipped. A powerful moment came when each member took time to hear God’s voice and share what they sensed. Despite challenges ahead, their collective vision is deep and strong enough to keep them focused.”
In a country once torn apart by division, CSR’s mission to bring peace and hope through education is profoundly significant.

CSR is intended as a supportive learning community. Schools that join gain access to leadership development, teacher training, mentoring, and contextualized educational resources. As Gilbert Muhire, CSR’s board secretary, explains:
“CSR provides a place where Christian educators can learn from one another and walk together in faith and professional growth.”
The ripple effect is clear: when teachers are equipped and spiritually grounded, students thrive - not only academically, but emotionally and spiritually. As one teacher shared after a recent workshop:
“I now feel equipped to support children academically, spiritually, and emotionally.”
The excitement is palpable. CSR members are thrilled about their government certification and eager to see what God will do next. Leaders like Stephen, Principal of Wellspring Academy, are investing time and energy beyond their own schools to build something bigger - a nationwide movement of Christ-centered education.
EduDeo Ministries has been a key partner in this journey, offering mentorship, strategic guidance, and financial support. Together, they are laying a foundation that will impact Rwanda for generations.
As Tom sums it up:
“There’s a spirit of optimism in Rwanda, and CSR is part of that. This group of committed leaders is shaping the nation in a positive way.”
With its foundation firmly set, CSR looks forward with hope, committed to nurturing students who will grow in knowledge, character, and Christ-like leadership, transforming communities across Rwanda.
