Nestled near the town of Chimtuta in Zambia, close to the Malawi border, Msuzi Secondary School stone walls represent hope for hundreds of students working towards a better future. In a country where only about 3% of students make it to university (due to limited enrollment space, financial barriers, and gaps in prior education), every opportunity to learn is precious. And thanks to the incredible support of EduDeo’s community and our local partner in Zambia new doors literally just opened.
For years, the boys at Msuzi Secondary School lived in cramped, deteriorating conditions. With over 200 male students, many traveling long distances to attend school, the lack of proper accommodation posed serious health and safety risks. While some boys could live at their parents', other boys were forced to rent space in abandoned shops nearby, just to have a roof over their heads. Their living conditions were not only unsafe but also hindered their ability to study and thrive.
But today, that story has changed.
Thanks to the generosity of EduDeo supporters and the mobilization of the local community (who contributed 25% of the building materials), the boys now have a new dormitory. Spacious, safe, and dignified, the new facility accommodates 48 students and offers proper ventilation, supervision, and a place to call home.
“When we visited the school in March of 2024, the boys begged us not to forget them,” shared Liz Thuo, EduDeo’s Operations Director. “The girls’ dorms were in great shape, but the boys’ dorms were not. It’s a blessing to see their prayers answered.”
Rev. Nehemia Mkwayi, EduDeo’s Southern Africa Ministry Coordinator, echoed this sentiment:
“The new dorm is not just a building—it’s a promise. It’s safe, spacious, and will attract more boys from distant areas to enroll. It will help sustain the school’s strong pass rate and ensure boys are supervised and supported throughout their education.”
The impact of this dormitory goes far beyond bricks and mortar. It’s about long-term, intergenerational change. With a stable place to live and study, boys can focus on their education, reduce absenteeism, and prepare for national exams. This investment in infrastructure is an investment in futures—futures that will shape communities and the nation.
The transformation of Msuzi Secondary School is a testament to what happens when your generosity meets needs identified and supported by the local community.
To everyone who supports EduDeo you didn’t just build a dorm. You built a transformed future.
