Just a few weeks ago, we shared the story of Nelson (12) and Thomas (8) - two bright students in Malawi who were preparing to return to school without the tools they needed to fully participate in class. Their teacher, Chimwemwe, spoke of the frustration these children faced daily, not because they lacked ability, but because they lacked resources.
Today, we have incredible news to share: thanks to your generosity, essential tools have arrived at Ekwendeni Primary School for the Blind!
Two of the needed pieces of equipment (an embosser and Orbit Reader) are now in the hands of teachers and students. These tools are transforming the classroom experience:
The embosser has dramatically simplified the production of braille examinations, saving countless hours of labor and ensuring students can take exams on time.
The Orbit Reader has eliminated the bulkiness of traditional braille books by consolidating them into one portable device, giving students access to all their learning materials in a single package.
Chimwemwe Mvula, Teacher In-Charge, shared:
“These materials have not only equipped our school with essential tools but also uplifted the spirits of our learners who rely on accessible resources like the embosser, Orbit Reader, and braille paper.”
Joseph Chilambo, a Grade 8 student, expressed his excitement:
“The embosser will now help us take our examinations in time, just like all other friends. Since we have an Orbit Reader, we will have access to all books within one package. This is exciting for my education!”
And from Joseph Munyimbili, Executive Director for Education in CCAP Livingstonia:
“The materials are important in the delivery of education to blind learners. Both teachers and learners will be motivated. They feel loved and accommodated in their education. With these materials, I expect good results in government final examinations.”
Education is a powerful tool for breaking cycles of poverty and opening doors to opportunity. For students like Nelson, Thomas, and Joseph, these resources mean they can learn alongside their peers, dream bigger, and pursue their goals without barriers.
This milestone is possible because of you - our supporters who believe every child deserves access to quality Christ-centered education. Your gifts have turned hope into reality.
But the work isn’t done. There are still four classrooms waiting for tools like these. Will you continue to stand with us and ensure no student is left behind?
