In Haiti, violence and instability have led to frequent school closures, making it difficult for teachers to access the quality training they need to effectively teach their students. Yet, in the midst of this adversity, resilience shines through the work of EduDeo and its local partner, Consortium for the Reinforcement of Christian Education in Haiti (CRECH).
In order to continue supporting teachers, CRECH has adopted decentralized training units (UFDECs). These units were established by CRECH in safer regions of Haiti to ensure that teachers can continue to grow professionally, even when traditional training centers are inaccessible.
UFDECs focus on equipping teachers who were recruited without formal qualifications. Through a two-year program, educators receive the training they need to become certified - all while continuing to teach in their communities.
Ruth’s Story: A Testament to Transformation
Ruth Castin Verger, a teacher in Port-Salut, is one of the many educators who have been equipped by this initiative. As the third recipient of this program in her region, Ruth shares:
“I thank every member of CRECH and EduDeo for allowing me to benefit from this decentralized training. It gave me the necessary knowledge to prepare lessons while integrating biblical values. As a Christian, I believe that when our books contain the word of God, it is an asset for our children.”

Ruth’s training has not only deepened her teaching skills but also empowered her to bring spiritual and academic enrichment to her classroom. With support like yours, the UFDEC center in Port-Salut was equipped with computers, enabling teachers like Ruth to conduct research and prepare lessons more effectively.
“Having access to computers helps us improve our skills as teachers. It’s a big help in preparing lessons and doing research.”
Why This Matters Now More Than Ever
In a time when Haiti’s education system is under immense pressure, EduDeo’s commitment to teacher support over the long term is making a tangible difference. Together, by decentralizing training and integrating technology, EduDeo and CRECH are ensuring that teachers are being supported in the midst of difficulty. These efforts are a testament to the power of creative solutions, community-based support, and Christ-centered education. And they remind us that even in the darkest times, investing in teachers is investing in the future.
