Saturday- we spent some of our last day at the school digging up dirt to backfill a classroom, which took many wheel barrels to fill half a classroom. We were greeted by some people from the Chijemu village we visited the day before. After we met for lunch and rested for our big Canadian/Zambian soccer game. The clouds seemed to have parted and the sun was strong as the game started. We made the first goal but it wasn’t enough to beat the athletes we played against. They had faster feet, higher kicks and used their head more than we did! Zambia was victorious with 3 goals to our one.
We thought we did pretty well considering and headed back to the lodge for a meal, devotions and early bed.
Sunday- We were able to sleep in a bit and have a later breakfast before we headed to Dunda church, Moffat’s church. Today we were welcomed to the Tumbuka service. We heard their many choirs and the gospel preached in their native language. It was a cooler day with some rain. After lunch we visited Philemon’s school, Proverbs Keystone school. We decided it would be best to contact a taxi service to take us there. We each had our individual taxi. Not how you think. Zambian taxis are pedal bikes and a seat in the back. A fun experience for the group as we rode through town and down alleys to the school. We were greeted by Philemon and Collins. Collins showed us a new projects Hope in Action where he plans to work with surrounding villages and mill crops of maize and return it back to them
He also has a chicken project he hopes to start.
Philemons school has a grown a lot in the years teams have been coming to Zambia. While we were there Philemon and his team presented us with a traditional Zambian meal. This consisted of cooked pumpkin, maize and ground nuts. This is something most families would eat alongside their staple food nshima . Then we had to head back to the lodge for another meal. Our last supper at the lodge with the staff of the guesthouse, CCAP members and other board members. It was a sight to see with about 30 people around a large table talking with each other and eating a meal. We were presented with and beautiful cake dedicated to Kyndra’s Foundation of Love and a small gift to each team member. A personalized shirt with CCAP logo.
