Day 1 - by Matthew Hais

2015 Belize Trip

Travel Day/Arrival

We started out on our long journey from the school. Many of you parents came to see us off and we kindly thank you. The drive down to Victoria was, at most, uneventful (Besides a few select people, myself included, getting turned around in Duncan). We entered the airport with no trouble and easily boarded our first flight. For some it was their first time on an aircraft, and I can personally assure all parents that they did an excellent job, even in the extreme turbulence!

After landing in Seattle we quickly found our gate and began the hour long wait for our flight (And a select three were able to quickly skirt to another wing of the airport, get Mexican food, and get back with time to spare!). The Seattle -> LA flight went by like a flash, leaving us in the LA airport, waiting for our final flight to arrive. After some passport issues, and missing laptops, we managed to settle down for the 3 hour wait. The final flight to Belize was a smooth flight, with many of us getting approximately 2ish hours of sleep along the way!

After clearing the Belize border, we quickly loaded into vehicles and began the long drive to our final destination. After arriving, we spent most of our day relaxing about, trying not to take long naps. Up to this point we are all extremely tired (Most of us with less than 4 hours sleep the entire trip!), but are having an extremely fun time, playing soccer and a variety of card games.

Speaking of not getting enough sleep, I’m heading off for a good nights rest, see you all tomorrow!

One last thing…despite all of the fatigue of the team…Nathan seems to be the most acclimatized to new environment…
