Day 2 - by Brianna

The morning started with some unpleasant noises - not only barking dogs, but honking van & for the girls, the family ruckus downstairs. After breakfast, we headed across the street to our first church service. It started with much Spanish, not enough English. People were very friendly & shared their hymn books & Bibles so that we could at last follow along. Most of the students then went to a Sunday school which was in English, talking about Revelation.

After the service, we played some soccer with some of the neighbours & played cards as well. We taught some of these kids the card games we were playing & they kicked our butts. We went for a walk as a group to the corner store (which we have gone to a few times before) but this time, with the locals, the prices for our pops were cheaper!

Down the road, there is a family who has a parrot (along with a bunch of other animals) & a group of us went down with a camera to go see. The parrot’s name was Piojos which means lice. There were a couple of kids & they let us take turns holding the bird. When it was Matthew’s turn, it decided to climb onto his glasses & made its way to his hat, where he thought was a perfect spot to take a poop. We all laughed & took a picture. Some of the group went back, Ashley, Evan & I stayed with the family, played some games (a lot of similar games that we have) with the three children & got to know the family a bit. They each have a pet dog, the girl had a pet duck & a fish. Most were named “no name”. We made our way back home with the rest of the team.

They had a second church service around 5 PM which was even MORE Spanish than this morning! We came back, had dinner, relaxed a bit, had a group meeting & some students went for an evening stroll. Hopefully tonight won’t involve any geckos on the walls, cockroaches in the toilets & no unwanted cuddling. (& no giant “spider attacks”)
