Day 2

Today was a good day. We went to church in the morning, and it was a very refreshing experience. Everyone was so enthusiastic and seemed like they got life from the church. All the members of the team enjoyed it and said that this is how it should be at home. Even though the preaching was in Spanish, we had a translator who helped everyone understand the message. It was all about preparing for hard times and how the only way we can beat satan is with God's power.

Then, after that, we went to an active volcano that was smoking. We hiked up to a viewpoint to try to see the lava but there was too much smoke to see the red glow. The smell of sulfur in the air was such a different experience. There were other people selling trinkets and fruits that were cool to see. There were many other tourists there which made it interesting to see, so that way we weren't the only group going to see this active volcano. The bus ride there was fun; It's interesting to see how close the team is becoming. Speaking of closeness, we have also noticed how close the vehicles drive next to each other. We are all noticing how happy the Nicaraguan people are and how hard-working they are.

Next at around 4:00 in the afternoon, we went to the market. This market was in Granada, which is often known as the touristy part of Nicaragua rich with vibrant colours and history. The reason for it being the touristy part of Nicaragua would be that a lot of the older historic buildings are still standing. The reason older buildings don't stand in Managua, (the capital of Nicaragua, also where we are staying) is because there was an earthquake in the 70's that hit the city. We went to Granada and went to all the little vendors and shops. All the vendors spoke a very tiny amount of English but just enough to communicate and buy some goods. The day ended with ordering in Tiptop. (basically Nicaraguan KFC). To end the day we arrived at the Nehemiah center and had devotions and talked about the day. What an awesome day exploring this incredible country and its natural beauty.
