Monday afternoon

Hola from Diriamba

Back to the jobsite today.  While we were in Managua, our Nicaraguan co-workers, Felix, Pin, Jose, Jose and Daniel had gotten a bunch of stuff done, it was good to see.

We had a little meeting with Peter and we divided up the work for the day, there were people grinding and cutting. People sanding, cleaning and painting. People tiling and people doing electrical work.  A hive of activity!  We are really blessed by Pete’s organizational skills.  Keeping twelve men busy all day doesn’t happen by itself.  He and Lester put a lot of time and effort into making sure that supplies are on hand and that work is organized.

While we were having lunch, Jose brought in a couple of iguanas that he had caught.  There were three or four young girls there and they came over to take a look at what was going on.  The girls inched closer and the youngest one eventually worked up enough nerve to touch one.  Slowly, they got more comfortable, except for the oldest girl.  She would move closer, giggle a bit and then jump back.  Finally after about 5 minutes of coaxing, she touched the iguana’s tail, just for a second.  I pretended to kiss the iguana and that really set them to laughing.  Children’s laughter is a wonderful thing.

During our afternoon break, the ice-cream cart came past on the road (he has our schedule figured out).  While we were on the street having ice-cream, there was a little girl standing there in a doorway.  She was about 2 years old, watching us have our ice-cream. It doesn’t matter where you go in the world, kids are just beautiful.

Two more days at the jobsite. Three more nights, then home.  Lots to do before that, what about after that?  We're still trying to figure that out.

till tomorrow
