Wednesday evening

Hola from Managua

It's hard to believe but our (physical) work here is done.  By the time we left from the school this afternoon, all of the concrete was poured, the lights were hung and wired in all of the lower class rooms, the tiles were all layed in place and the steel was all cut up (although not quite all sanded and painted).  God is good!

We worked till 3pm and then the staff at the school put on a short program for us.  They sang, they danced and they presented us with small tokens of their gratitude.  We also had a chance to thank them for their hospitality and for their commitment to providing Christian education to so many children in Diriamba. Even our singing sounded pretty good.

After many goodbyes, we left the school and headed back to Managua.  Before dinner, Lester left to spend the evening with his family so we said our goodbyes to him.  I'm (we're) going to miss that guy.  After dinner we had a half hour debriefing session with Pete and Trudy. They asked us to share some of the ways that we saw God here in Nicaragua and whether we had any suggestions on how to improve the HANDS experience.  We talked a lot about the former and very, very little about the latter.  Peter, Trudy and the whole Edudeo team are doing amazing work here.

So tonight is our last night.  This whole experiece has been so intense (not really the right word but the best one that I can really come up with).  We've been bombarded with new experiences, new people, new relationships.  We've learned many things about this beautiful country and the people who live here.  We've learned a lot about ourselves and about each other.  We've seen God at work here.

We'd like to thank everyone who's been following along online for their support as well.  Each time I open my computer, a crowd slowly develops asking whether there were any comments on the blog.  It has truely been a pleasure writing this, helping you all to live (at least a little) along with our experiences here.  Please note however, that you really need to live this to get the full effect (ask any team member and they will concur).

It will be an early morning tomorrow.  Pete is picking us up at 5am.  Please pray for travelling mercies for the team and we will see you soon.
