Tuesday

TUESDAY

We were up at 5:00 this morning and breakfast was at 6:00 … we were tired this morning, but the excitement of heading to the school was felt by everyone.

We arrived at the school and Mr. Moltzahn shared devotions with the Grade 11s and our class. During this time we divided into groups and shared our photo books with the students from Bautista Libertad and they shared photos and answered questions about themselves with us. This was a great time of getting to know each other better!

We were then in charge of teaching Englih lessons to some of the classes in the school. We had worked hard and had prepared lessons and materials for these classes …. But suddenly we were nervous as we entered their classrooms, knowing we knew little Spanish!  However, once our groups got started, it went very well!

Our favourite time of the day is playing with all of the children from the different grades!  Morning recess was filled with activities, laughter, hugs, and working hard to communicate with one another across the language barriers.

Next we had a time of sharing talents and testimonies.  Their classes had prepared many specials for us such a music, song, skits and recitations. They were all enjoyable and … most impressive … they were all presented to us in English!  Our group shared the skit we had prepared and a song as a team. Jaydin also did a great job singing a song for the group.

We had lunch with the teachers and then spent time in the afternoon discussing issues about our two schools’, mission, vision and procedures with the teachers from Bautista Libertad.

We were introduced to the many colours, sights and sounds of the market where we were able to spend some time shopping, practicing our Spanish as we bartered with the vendors, and searching for various souvenirs!  It was overwhelming, and very fun!

After supper we had a presentation from Steve Holtrop, who taught us more of the history of Nicaragua. We had devotions and a time of journaling, and fell into bed … so very tired, but fulfilled from a terrific Day #2!
