Iguanas in the sunshine

Today was a healthy day of work again, filled with more rebar and forms for concrete.  One afternoon highlight was that some neighbourhood kids brought an iguana by.  As you can tell from the pictures it was a few feet long, tail included.  They caught it in the swamp and tied the legs behind its back like handcuffs.  Some of the girls handled it with confidence.  But the others... well let’s just say you could hear the echo all around.  Alicia’s scream happened when she dared to hold it, but one of the kids, sensing her fear, flicked the tail onto her leg for a joke!

One encouragement came indirectly from a neighbour lady of the school.  She asked Emmanuel, the construction supervisor, “Do you have a professional crew there?  They just started and they know what they’re doing already.”  He told her that we’re teachers and business people, and she was impressed how quickly we’ve learned and can work.  We’re so thankful to God for the strength and determination to do the most that we can in the funnest way!

We’ve heard that Jack and Audrey Strikwerda plan to host the families of the hands team members on Saturday for some afternoon fun.  Thank-you!  We’re certainly missing our loved ones, especially at the start of a weekend when we’d normally be together.

Every evening we’ve appreciated Alicia doing our laundry, but now that we’re approaching the half-way mark it’s not as much a priority, so she took the night off.  After devotions we split off to play euchre, read, or chat away in the living room with Emmanuel.  Tomorrow we'll work a half day in the morning, then head from the school an hour inland on a cave-tubing adventure.  After a half-hour jungle hike uphill we'll ride down a lazy river, including through large underground caverns.  Pastor Betson negotiated a great deal at $20/person.

We'll pray for a fine day of building God's kingdom and enjoying his creation.  To him be the glory!
