Day 6

Saturday, our day off. Chance to sleep in. Didn't happen. We were woken up at 6 AM by loud gospel music and singing coming from large Pentecostal church group who had arrived at camp the evening before. They were at camp for a weekend retreat and we were blessed with more music throughout the weekend.

After breakfast we piled into the minibus and headed for the market in downtown Santo Domingo for some souvenir shopping. After had the opportunity to barter for our purchases, we headed to Boca Chica for an afternoon of sun and fun on the beach. Santo Domingo's nearest public beach is like its streets, crowded! But we enjoyed ourselves, though we were constantly heckled by peddlers. Hoping to be back at camp for dinner, we headed home; what was a 90 minute drive turned into a 3 hour trip. Pedro Martinez was in town and everyone from the DR flocked to Santo Domingo to see their MLB hero.

We finished our day with a late dinner and a good night of devotions/discussion. Then we all hit the hay after a long day in the sunshine!
