Day 6

Day 6: Road trip

This morning we awoke at the beautiful Nehemiah Center after our first sleep here, and enjoyed delicious Nicaraguan coffee and a wonderful breakfast. We started the day with devotions and prayer together before heading on an educational day road trip.

Before we left we presented center staff with a memorial plaque for our friend Lester (more on him later).

In the first part of the day, we were welcomed at two schools who have benefited from Edu-Deo HANDS/Co-impact teams. A principal from one of the schools shared her story about getting to a financial point where they would have to close the school. The board and staff decided to pray for a week before this happened for the school. When the accountant went to the bank to close the account, they discovered that $2000 had been deposited by a donor and the school was saved! God is GOOD! ALL the time!

We then had lunch and continued our journey

to another school where a previous Covenant team had been in 2015. They were amazed and thankful for the progress at the school. The principal/pastor called the teachers “heroes”. They work for less than minimum wage. $100/month!

Later this afternoon we had a visit at the home of Lester and Zoila. Lester was a much—loved guide/translator/job coordinator for Edu-Deo, known by most of our team from previous trips. Sadly, Lester passed away as a result of Covid last year and Zoila survived after a difficult struggle. We have learned how much more difficult Covid has been in Nicaragua than for those of us from developed nations.

We are so impressed to see how proud and grateful these schools are, and it is reflected in how well-kept and clean their facilities are.

We ended our day with a wonderful visit at the home of Adriana & Raoul Herrera, and their adorable baby Oliver. We shared a meal together and learned about their missionary work through Resonate Global Missions. We look forward to April when the family will travel to Canada and will visit Covenant CRC, as we sponsor them as missionaries.

Today was a wonderful day.
