Commissioning Service

Joined by family and members of the congregation, the Bethel Newmarket HANDS team was consecrated and commissioned for service during the morning service today at our church.

Our pastor, Dr. Kobie du Plessis, led the service, calling the HANDS team members to serve the Lord with their individual God-given gifts and faithfully represent the congregation at our school-building project in Matagalpa.

The commission service included a number of stirring songs of worship, including the testimonial hymn I've come to tell (Te Vengo a decir).

EduDeo Ministries Eastern Development Director Michael Zwiep, joined by wife Victoria and young son Ezra, provided a brief overview of the educational needs in Nicaragua as well as the school project in Matagalpa.

Dr. du Plessis then called the ten members of the Newmarket team present to the front of the church for the commissioning and laying on of hands for prayer.

As Dr. du Plessis noted:

"The voice of the Lord has individually called Janet Bos, Ben Breukelman, Angela DeVries, Lisa DeVries, Janet deWinter, Raymond Drost, Henry Lise, Rachelle Nieboer, Sandra Normandin and Sam VanderVecht together and unified them into the Bethel HANDS team, calling them to serve in Nicaragua.  We are pleased to send othem out with our blessing."

The team was presented with a number of Spanish copies of the Bible, representing the call to represent God's living Word in their actions, a hammer to represent both the construction of a new school and the building up of new relationships, a paintbrush representing the call to work in the community with acts of grace, love, kindness and compassion and a notebook to record the team's experiences in Nicaragua as a testament of God's faithfulness.

The service continued with the celebration of communion and a compelling message from John 3:3-5, the team meeting together for a luncheon following the service.
