The Warm Heart Project

Cultivating a Sense of Belonging for Students with Disabilities

As students and teachers, you understand the value of belonging at school. Building a community of belonging strengthens relationships and goes hand-in-hand with academic success.

In Malawi, it is rare to find schools that provide a safe and supportive learning environment for students with special needs. Reasons include widespread material poverty, lack of government support, and deeply rooted harmful beliefs about why children have disabilities, what they're capable of, and how valuable they are to society.

We need you to champion special education in Malawi by supporting special education training for teachers and school gardens. Because all God's image bearers deserve a place to belong, especially at school.

So, what do you say? Will you join the Warm Heart Project? We've got lots of creative ideas for you to join with schools across Canada and raise $65,000 this school year. We know you can help us get there!

WHAT WILL THIS PROJECT ACCOMPLISH?

Invest

TEACHER TRAINING

To better serve their students' exceptional needs, 10 teachers will receive additional training in special education. The training will equip them to specifically teach hearing impaired students and reduce the large student-teacher ratio in schools.

Invest

SCHOOL GARDENS

School gardens are an investment for today and tomorrow! Food from the gardens will provide meals for students living on campus. The gardens will also be a place for students to develop valuable farming skills for their future careers.

Invest

LOVE & BELONGING

All children, no matter their abilities and needs, are made in the image of God! And all children deserve equitable access to Christ-centred education and to be raised up as agents of change. When we invest in education, we invest in community transformation!

RESOURCES

"Special/inclusive education is often not prioritized in Malawi. But at CCAP Livingstonia, we believe that every child is made in the image of God and deserves the opportunity for a Christ-centred education. We place an emphasis on making space for children with disabilities and special needs, because education informs, but the word of God transforms. We want to continue supporting teachers who want to grow in their knowledge and skills so they can make school accessible to all children."

– Atupele, Educational Leader, Malawi
