What’s in a Name?

Pronunciation

Definition

The name EduDeo [ ed-joo-day-oh ] is a combination of the words "Education" and "Deo" (Latin for God). This fusion encapsulates the heart of our mission - an education rooted in the Gospel (i.e. Biblical worldview). The second word, "Ministries" is an identifier that frames us as a mission organization which ultimately seeks to serve and spread the Gospel. Together, these words are a true reflection of our vision and mission. It's also a unique and memorable name which will help us to stand out.

Logo Look & Feel

The new logo is imbued with a childlike naiveté. It's friendly. It's fun. This is achieved through the use of thick, primitive line work and bold, vibrant colour. The two slabs of colour were intentionally positioned imperfectly to suggest a childlike "cut and paste" craft or a drawing where a young artist has coloured just a bit outside the lines : ) The butterfly graphic has also been rotated slightly to create the sense of motion and lift. This makes the identity a little more surprising than if it was left perfectly symmetrical.

Typeface

Typeface

A strong slab serif font was chosen as much for impact and legibility as for it's academic qualities and contemporary aesthetic. In the logo only, the name is set in all lowercase letters bringing forth a less formal, more conversational tone. It aides the composition and makes the organization more friendly, approachable - even fun. A separator was inserted to highlight the two parts of the new name (Education & Deo), assisting with pronunciation.

Christian Fish Symbol

Christian Fish Symbol

An education rooted in a Biblical worldview is pivotal to tranformation and is what makes EduDeo unique. It is not enough to make books and education the answer in themselves. A reference to the foundation of the quality education we work towards is essential. The Christian fish is largely recognizable, yet subtle in the logo. It functions as the centrepiece of the whole icon.

Book & Butterfly

Book & Butterfly

The butterfly is a brilliant metaphor for transformation and is well understood to represent this. Rooting education in the Bible is what brings about true transformation. With a clever illustration, the butterfly doubles as a book, and even more than that - it's the Bible!

Pages & Wings

Pages/Wings

Two simple blocks of bold colour give the icon vitality and energy. These represent the wings of the butterfly and the pages of a book. The interaction between the blocks of colour and the line work gives the icon a sense of motion and depth.
