About this Project

On August 14 – 18, 2017, about 26 Belizean teachers came together, some for the second year in a row, to respond to the question: How can I plan government-required curriculum from a biblical perspective? Participants collaborated with Canadian Learning Leaders Kristie Spyksma and Evelyn Bouwman to dig deeply into a specific unit topic, using the core practices of Teaching for Transformation and some of the elements of Backwards Design. Their goal was to plan learning experiences in which their students are called to live in God’s Story. At the final Celebration of Learning, small groups presented units on such varied topics as The Nature of Numbers, Being Part of a Classroom Community, Human Sexuality, The Skills of a Scientist, and Protecting Resources. It was evident that teachers had challenged each other to plan learning activities that gave student tangible ways to see and live their own unique places in God’s grand story.
