Reflection

Sustaining School Improvement

This blog was written by Walking Together Learning Leader Tena Siebenga-Valstar who is serving and learning together with Robert Koole by facilitating a project in Nicaragua called Sustaining School Improvement.

As I reflect on our recent trip to Nicaragua to work with the facilitators for the Christian schools there, I realize how blessed I am to have been given this opportunity. I have learned much about the Nicaraguan culture and admire the love that the people of Nicaragua have for their country.

Their love for the Lord and their love for their country fuels a passion for Christian education.

The facilitators were eager to learn and from what I have observed, passed on to their teachers so much of what they have learned during our sessions over the five previous years. They have truly developed Christian curriculum using their background and experiences. They fully participated, even when it was hard work, so much so that I believe they now “own” what they have done. Although they did the tough work, they show so much appreciation. They know how to work, but they also know how to have fun. I will always cherish the wonderful relationships I have developed with the facilitators. I praise and thank God for what was accomplished in His name.
