One week to go! It has been an exciting journey getting to this point! In April, the deacons of our church initiated the HANDS trip. By the beginning of May, we had a group of willing participants. We began by choosing the location, getting volunteers in place for key positions on the team, planning fundraisers, and communicating our plans, and our desire for prayer and financial support with our congregation.
Fundraising was a great opportunity for our team to work together. We were able to raise the needed funds through a variety of means:donations received though a spring BBQ, soup and buns lunches, a pig roast, silent and live auction, donations made through offerings, contributions received for members of our team building a shed for a member, helping a family move, and for moving furniture, as well as the initial contribution each team member was required to make to reflect their commitment to the trip. Amazing!!! We are so blessed to have such a supportive congregation!
We have experienced real team growth as we have met regularly for Bible discussion, planning sessions and prayer. it is great to see how we are starting to gel as a team - feeling more relaxed and comfortable with each other.
We have learned that our project will be to build a library for the a Christian School. The school has 146 preschool through grade 6 students. The school’s vision is to plant the seeds of Christianity into the lives of its students and parents, as many of the students are not from Christian homes. The library we will be working on will measure about 8 meters by 5 meters.
We are looking forward to working together on the construction of the library, meeting the staff and students of the school, working with the Edudeo staff, experiencing a new country and culture, and trust that the whole experience will help us grow in our relationship with the Lord and with each other.
Our congregation has arranged for each of our team members to have a prayer partner. We are so grateful for this additional support!
Please keep us in your prayers.
