Work and Play

Day 4 - We have begun some serious brick laying business. We got to project site on time and immediately jumped right into where we finished off the day before. Everyone knew what to do and where to go and the bricklayers happily assisted us. We were surprised when some students and their families started to show up, because in our own reality who would want to show up to school early on a Saturday morning. They were happy to see us and tried to communicate with smiles and the few words of English that they knew (most of the people we meet know English, but some of the female villagers never went to school and so didn’t learn English). We were a little confused why they just watched, but Collins explained to us that the school had told the families and students to come to show their support. Little did we know that many of them had to walk two and a half hours to get there. We had some time to work alongside them and learn more about what their daily life looks like.

In the afternoon we were scheduled to play a soccer game against local Zambians from the church here in Lundazi. We were a little nervous about how good they might be, but they were kind and put a mixed team together so we could have a fun match. Team Canada got off to a good start and was leading 4-0 at half time. But the heat must have got to us and our stamina started to fail  and before long they tied it up at 4-4. In the last minute we scored a goal and won the game. It was a good time to interact with the local church community.

So far we have been so pleased with comments and the feedback we have gotten from the blog. Please continue your prayers and enjoy the extra hour of sleep.
