Day 2
After a good night’s sleep, we woke up refreshed and had breakfast, which was eggs with peppers and onions made into an omelet, bread with peanut butter and jam and coffee or tea.
Philemon then took us to the local village where we were able to use our debit card (Ken was very impressed that it worked, he even commented that it might work faster than the ATM’s in Canada). We then got a tour of the town which is very different then Canada’s. The girls bought chitenga’s (a skirt or wrap), then we walked through the market which was almost as busy as Central Station. Women were selling fruits, vegetables, nuts or clothes and the men were selling different tools or meat. We saw fried up fish the size of minnows and fried snakes. It was amazing how different and unique the market place was compared to ours. All the colors, smells, people busy working or kids playing under the tables. We headed back to the guest house, showered up and then enjoyed some quite time where we could talk about our day’s adventures or write in our journals. After a nice and simple supper we had devotions which Ken led, then headed off to bed. We all needed a good night’s sleep for we had to get up early the next day for church.
