Day 6 - Hakuna Matata!

We had a busy, exciting day here exploring the sites of Nicaragua!

We began by visiting a pottery shop about a half hour away. It was SO cool! A worker there showed us how they make by hand the beautiful pieces there. Justine and Jessie gave it a try. Justine was not so great at it! haha. There was also a cute monkey named Oliver there. We got to hold him. Fun fact: they use bicycle spokes, hacksaw blades, and paintbrushes made from old pens and human hair, and different types of clay and rocks found in the region.

Next, we went ziplining in the rainforest at the base of the Mombacho volcano. It was super super fun! We got to go upside down, bounce, spread our arms like birds, and much more. A few of us were slightly scared but we all had a blast seeing the beautiful landscapes.

We then went to Granada, a smaller, more touristy city. We ate lunch at a chicken restaurant similar to KFC. We then went to the beach at Granada for a boat tour of some beautiful islands, including monkey island. There are around 8 monkeys on this small island, and one even had a little baby!

After the island tour, we headed to Masaya volcano. We went all the way up to the top. You could smell and see the sulphur rising from the craters. There is a beautiful large cross on the top of this volcano as well. This volcano erupted a year ago, and is always emitting a steady stream of ash. You can't be near the crater for more than five minutes at a time. A couple areas of the viewpoints were closed due to the recent earthquakes, but we still got some nice views.

Our final stop of the day was Pizza Hut! We had a great time eating some more American food with Lester and Lennon.

We now just got back from a game of basketball in the court here at the Nehemiah centre. We're going to play a few more games before going to bed.

Tomorrow, we're going to church at 8:30 (a 2 hour service) then to the beach! At night, we plan to watch a commentary about relief in Guatemala.
