What a great first day in Belize! We met the entire school at morning Chapel and made an impressive dent in the painting project. But, more importantly, we spent time talking with the students, the staff and the people we were working alongside. One of the student's mothers worked with us for part of the day and we enjoyed getting to know her.
Elsa, a pastor's wife, and I chatted for quite awhile, mother to mother about things that are universal to all Christian mothers: Concerns over raising our teens and raising them to discern and make wise choices as Christians as they're bombarded by so many outside influences. We spoke of our own faith journeys and God's amazing grace. How wonderful to spend time with someone so far from home and to instantly feel an immediate bond as sisters in The Lord!
The kids connected in other ways, mostly on the football (soccer) field. They shared a common love for the sport with many students (and one very talented teacher!) throughout the afternoon, at every opportunity. Looking forward to tomorrow's adventures!
