Today we went back to Bautista Libertad to attend church with their community there. After opening songs, we were taken to a Sunday School classroom where an English-speaking missionary (originally from Florida) shared a message with us. Following our class, we returned to the service to share our song with the church and participate in the remainder of the service with the rest of the congregation. Although there was not a translator for us during the sermon, we understood parts of what was shared and enjoying being among the congregation. Afterwards, we were invited to the courtyard where we were each treated to a bottle of pop before heading back to the Nehemiah Center. This morning we experienced beautiful guitar playing, enthusiastic singing, and lively preaching, all while being surrounded by beautiful people! It was a good morning!
After church we returned to the Nehemiah Centre for lunch and to pack up to head to a swimming pool. On our way to the private pool, our bus driver had to pull through and around some incredibly tight corners and barriers … he was showered with clapping and great cheering after narrowly clearing each fencepost or obstacle. He was amazing!
What a treat it was to spend a few hours relaxing together at the pool! We enjoyed water games, playing “President” and relaxing in the sun. It truly was a day of rest!
We returned to the beautiful Nehemiah Center for supper - thankful for the cooks who take such good care of us, making such wonderful meals for us!
After supper we watched the movie “Reparando” - a movie about how God uses relationships and people to help repair those who are broken and hurting. It is a powerful documentary that speaks about the people of Guatemala, and how they “rise up from despair to build a new country for the youth.”
We ended the day with an evening of devotions, sharing, mail time, and planning for the coming days. It was a beautiful day!
